Rules for emerging tech

Notes go here to see if they show up. An evergreen post.

This is an ongoing post—I’ll add more content as new ideas come in.

Sometime in the 2010’s (before AI was mainstream), the adjective “emerging” found its way in front of the word technology, and new tech turned into “emerging tech.” New terms catch on for a reason. This term came to be alongside news stories of lab grown meat, computer-brain interfaces, and genetically modifications. It was a way to acknowledge the weirdness afoot.

In a world of seemingly sentient chatbots and the first pair of genetically modified babies, the weirdness is not about to cease. We need some rules to define how this technology is different, and how to work (and live) with it.

If you have new rules you’d like to add, send me a note. (We’ll credit you we include it!)
